Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speaker. Feminist Frequency is a web site with video and an online blog analysing portrayals gender roles in pop culture. Committed to destroying the stereotypes of women that exist in pop media, she is also working with issues that relate to the targeted harassment women and other classes of people on the internet. Sarkeesian is a graduate in the fields of social thought and political science at York University. She is also a highly-respected public speaking. Sarkeesian gave speeches to the TEDxWomen Festival as well as to the United Nations Broadband Working Group. When she was a student at the university, Sarkeesian became concerned about issues related to gender and rights for women at an early stage. She was a young woman who wanted to create an online series to examine the gender roles in games. In the end, she ended up being victimized by online harassment. But the harassment did not discourage her. The experience only strengthened her as a feminist journalist. Sarkeesian has been awarded several awards for her contributions to feministism.
