Heidi Watney (born May 19 1981) is an American sportscaster who serves as a reporter for Apple TV+. Her past experience in sportscasting includes assignments at the University of San Diego, New England Sports Network (Boston), Time Warner Cable SportsNet (Los Angeles) and two stations in Fresno. Watney attended Clovis West High School in Fresno where she competed in hurdles, diving, gymnastics and cheerleading. [1] She was a National Merit Scholar and attended the University of San Diego on an academic scholarship, where she graduated with honors in 2003. Watney was the Miss California USA 2002 runner-up. Watney is the cousin to professional golfer Nick Watney. 7 Andy Weir, author of The Martian science fiction novel has stated that Watney was his first name, and was the one who invented the character Mark Watney from it. He heard her name during a Red Sox broadcast. Watney is featured in the music video for Dropkick Murphys ?T single "Going Out in Style". She was also featured as a reporter in the sideline of the games on video MLB The Show 19, MLB The Show20 and MLB The Show 21, respectively. [10]
